“Whenever you are creating beauty around you, you are restoring your own soul” - Alice Walker
In 2015 I left my corporate life of 22 years in search of one that fueled my creativity and passions. I fell in love with the incredibly luscious quality of Encaustic medium and never looked back. I am inspired daily by the natural beauty of my home in Santa Fe, New Mexico and strive to capture the movement, energy and grace of its landscape through my artwork.
My primary medium is Beeswax in the form of Wax Encaustic on panels and Wax Monotypes on paper. Encaustic paint is heated beeswax with resin and pigment painted onto hard surfaces or paper....and a blow torch is involved in heating the wax layers!
Building up many layers of wax only to scrape them away is an exciting process that allows me to communicate the idea that nothing is permanent or perfect and can always change. It gives me the freedom to experiment, play and take risks to reveal a story underneath the layers.
I use a large "Roland Hot Box" and heated aluminum plate to do my beeswax and paper work. A simple pancake griddle is used when I am heating the wax for my works on wooden panels for supports. This is where the blow torch comes in to melt each layer to the next.
I am so grateful to call Santa Fe, New Mexico my home. I enjoy the endless natural beauty, culture, people, landscape and daily inspiration of living in such a magical place.
I have shown my work at Mariposa Gallery in Albuquerque and participated in Art Shows in Abiquiu, Dixon, Los Alamos and Los Luceros Historic Site. I have Open Studio Tours in my home studio in Santa Fe, or you can always visit by appointment.
Thanks for visiting!!
