“ Art enables us to find ourselves and lose ourselves at the same time. “ Thomas Merton
Encaustic Monotype is a one of a kind printmaking technique that creates an original work of art. Pigmented beeswax is applied to a temperature-controlled aluminum plate to serve as a palette when painting with encaustic. The molten wax can be painted on, poured or drawn with solid encaustic sticks and then manipulated with brushes and other tools to refine the image. The monotype is made by laying a piece of absorbent paper onto the hot wax. Once the paper is pressed into the wax, it soaks into the paper revealing a design that cannot be duplicated. This process can be repeated to add more layers and depth into the original piece. The results are often gestural and abstract in nature creating a mood or evoking a feeling.
